Our at the UNESCO word heritage site 206km from Colombo , the sacred city at Anuradapuraya is a magical plane. Featuring some at the most ancient archaeological treasures in Sri Lanka, the vast heritage site is an impressive reminder at an ancient civilization.

Once one of the grandest monastic cities the word has ever seen. It was established in the 4th century BC rising to prominence with the arrival of Buddhism, pivotal event that saw the city.

Polonnaruwa Ancient City

The island medieval capital (11c & 12c) rose to fame after the decline at Anuradapura. The city in its day was fortified with three concentric walls, beautified with parks and gardens and sanctified by many shrines. Polonnaruwa shows the interesting blend at the influence of the South Indian Hindu culture on the Sinhala Buddhist art and architect tare in the scattered shrines and monuments still venerated daily by devotees.

The Siva Devales are interesting transposition at the Hindu style at decor. Other interesting ruins are the king's council chamber the floral store pillars at Nissanka Latha Mandapaya, the royal citadel, Kumara pokuna, (baths) the Thuparama with it's original vaulted roof, the exquisite circular vatadage relic house, lavished with moonstones, guard stones, and sculptured

Gal Vihara is a place you shouldn't miss as it is the peak of its artistic achievement the colossal statues at the Buddha are cut in a row from a horizontal escarpment at streaked granite. The consummate skill with which the expressions of peace serenity and strength have been carved of solid rock is simply breathtaking.

Sea at Parakrama

One of the largest man made inland lakes in the word. Called the "Sea at Parakrama" owing to the waves that play on its surface due to its immense size. Built by Parakramabahu "The Great" in the 12th c A.D It is a unique irrigation complex which waters the city as well as the surrounding plains and in use even today. The embankment rises to an average height of 12m and stretches over it's entire length of 13.7 km.
